Re: Anyone doing bitcoin mining?

I just realized how to describe my feeling about bitcoin: It's like you came to party 3 hours late when all pretty girls are already occupied... And your options are choose from what is left or go home. I should have noticed that way way earlier, that would have been perfect answer to ...

Re: Anyone doing bitcoin mining?

Thinking about creating my own miner with my own pool - does it have any sence at this point?
Wonder why everyone use same protocol? Using custom one might have lots of benefit (for example much better DDOS protection)

Re: Anyone doing bitcoin mining?

Guys from shop called and said that they have only 1 6950 left... Damn, I've bought all their 6990 and all reference 6950  The only good piece of news is that they should deliver it in some 8-10 hours from now :-D This summer would be much harder than I've thought... Even heat of 1 6950 is ki...

Re: Anyone doing bitcoin mining?

This sounds interesting? How much money can you make with this? At this moment, optimal hardware pays for itself in 1 month :-) In the long term profit will fall, approaching total electricity bill (so guys in Germany are not lucky) Also, some might think current bitcoin exchange rate is speculativ...

Re: Anyone doing bitcoin mining?

You right about 20'000 6870. But there are a tiny problem: It's 5'000'000$ in hardware and 5MW of electricity. It's a big deal. While government could do that, this would require quite a nice budget which would need approvals and time, nobody can just spent 5M$ in 1 week just on his will :-) Custom ...

Anyone doing bitcoin mining?

Just ordered hardware for my mining boxes:
1: 2x6950 unlocked
2: 2x6990
3: 1x6990 1x6950 unlocked

Should arrive tomorrow, should show some 3200-3250 MHash/sec combined
With conditioning it should eat like 2kW of electricity 24*7 (1500 kWh/month) :str:

Re: Problem: easier metallization

Doh, they don't stop killing me:
Common chemical elements that produce deep-level defects in silicon include iron, nickel, copper, gold, and silver. In general, transition metals produce this effect, while light metals such as aluminium do not.
So, it seems that all my hopes are gone. Aluminium.

Re: Data needed: sample ASIC designs for 1-2 metals

Hehe, found nice design :-)

http://www.4004.com/

All masks are available, 1 metal 1 poly.
It might be tough to do it without poly (i.e. 2 metal no poly).

There is also 6502 ripped pretty well, but it also uses depletion transistors.

Re: Problem: easier metallization

You should definitely chose Alu option. Copper metallization is a bad choice, as it has high diffusion rate through silicon and oxide. This can result in p-n junction poisoning and shorts from electrochemical migration. There are other contras also. Yes, Al seems to be the most studied and reliable...

For sponsors & labs

Sponsorship : While I definitely could use some extra help and show a shiny logo like "Sponsored by XXX" in the article after project completion, there are quite limited ways: 1) Access to your lab - it would be awesome to be able to come for a week(hehe, 24x7 marathon. country does not matter) and...

Data needed: sample ASIC designs for 1-2 metals

After trying first few transistors, sample ASIC schematics would be needed to tune the process. It's important to be sure that these test designs already work in silicon, instead of trying to design or synthesize them from scratch just for testing. They should be low-tech (not smaller than 0.5um) an...

Data needed: proceses descriptions,libraries,models, 0.5um+

Basically, manufacturers and companies like MOSIS are not going to give out any process info, and especially component libraries for individuals like me, who are not going to make any orders from them. Main interest is in: 1) Component libraries (digital mainly). I know these are the most restricted...
