Re: How high can you get

After all, they're both companies to maximize their benefits and their shareholder value, so these things are just plain normal everyday business policies. They want to make money, that's their prime goal, designing more (or less) good CPUs is just their way to get there. And after that they says t...

Re: How high can you get

That's not fair  Why when Intel makes an instruction set AMD have to support that. If AMD does - Intel just ignores it... (With an exception of x64 set)

It would be sad if Intel would not support it

Re: How high can you get

A couple more things, 1. Do you have any input on how well current/future AMD CPU's perform vs. Intel w/SSE2? 2. I have seen some benchmarks on the ATI GPU's recently. Many show up to 30% + improvment over their Nvidia counterparts. Do you think this figure will translate well (for hash recovery)? ...

Re: How high can you get

By the way, question... What kind of performance are we looking forward to in the upcoming Intel CORE i7 Octacore (actually, 4 cores with 2 threads/per core hyperthreading has reappeared) architecture? Also, we know about about the use of SSE2 instruction set to accelerate calculations, but what ab...

Haven't heard about GPU number limit. Right now it is "limited" to 8 just because there is no widespread MBs with more than 4x16 PCI-E slots

Opteron 165@1.8Ghz in 32bit mode shows the same speed - 11.5MHash/sec, and that speed is expected.

Re: 32 GPU cores. Will it blend? :)

Yep. that would require aditional PSU's. I will have to do the math to see if it worth stack GPU's on a single machine or have a bunch of machines networked using a cluster-ready version of the bruteforcer. Answer is simple :-) It's not. Case+MB+lowend quad core CPU would cost less than 729$ and wi...

Re: Problems Running Cuda version

and plz :D optimize it for amd dualcore opterons, 10-13 mio hashes a sec is very poor compared to the intels or phenom performance :P Well, phenom & opteron dual core performance per core per Mhz should be very close. Intel P4 might be even slower than Opterons, so this is not Intel specific optimi...

"DC Output: 400Watts Max"

Looks like they are using non-standart PSU, might be a problem as 7x9800GX2 would eat at least ~2000W

PS. $729... Hmm....

Re: 32 GPU cores. Will it blend? :)

Very interesting device. I guess it might suffer from limited bandwidth, but BarsWF uses just ~25Mb/sec for 1 billion keys/second, so it should not reduce performance more then for a fraction of 1%.

Internal limit is 128 cores for now(both CPU and GPU). If you would be able to get more, I'll compile special version just for you :-)

Re: How high can you get

Well, it is not specifically optimized for intel, but SSE2 engine of Core2Duo processors is very very nice. It does 3 128bit instructions per cycle, that is awesome. For example Intel Atom has very weak SSE2 core, so it is veeeeery slooooow on it. Update: Intel P4 also does not look very good here P...
