Yet another beginner ATI GPU "no start" issue

Post by netwit » Sat Sep 12, 2009 6:44 pm

My system is a Dell laptop will be using a liquid cooler plate under it if this gets working...

The Studio XPS 16 system is:
Vista Ultimate X64
ATI 4670 IGB RAM
Dual core T9800 cpu by Intel at 2.93 Ghz

I DL'd the BarsWF_SSE2_x64.exe , I de-installed the factory ATI 4670 Mobility driver and got the version 8.12 from ATI installed minus the Catalyst Control Center. I used the hardware manager to confirm the driver properties used by the vid adapter had the date time stamp of the 12/01/2008 driver download, though I was unsure the exact version expected, it looked correct. I tried the BarsWF, and there were no error msgs, but only the CPU cores were cracking on the hash. I tried moving the three each 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the amdcalxx.dll files into the BarsWF folder and tried again, the situation did not improve.

Keeping the amdcacxx.dll files in BarsWF, I deinstalled the 8.12 drivers and re-installed the factory 4670 Mobility drivers and tried again. No joy. Anyone have any ideas on what to do next?

I re-installed the Vista x64 8.12 driver over the factory driver a 2nd time and verified the running softwares below. Still no joy.

BarsWF_SSE2_x64.exe is a CPU only version. You need to download AMD's one.

Ahh..yes, it's obvious now. I was thinking AMD = CPU, not ATI = GPU when I looked at the Brook option. It works now, thanks for the clarification. Now I must add another item to this thread, maybe it needs to be a new topic, I'm not sure.

Now that the Brook application has been tested here, I found two issues with the Brook application. I will post the second information in a follow on post after this one:

1) The SSE version of the application uses both cores of my CPU, but the Brook application is only using one of my 2 cores of my CPU, has this been seen before?

This is the second issue I mentioned earlier. The Brook application crashes here if I use the options "-c 0aA~" but it runs fine if I delete any one of the 4 options and only use 3 of them. Has this been seen before? This is my report below:

The application BarsWF_Brook_x64 application crashs when all four
parameter options "-c 0aA~" are used. The app does not crash when
only 3 are used. The order of option parameters does not matter,
only the quantity used. The system is a ATI 4670 running driver 8.12
on Vista Ultimate x64 with an Intel T9800 Dual COre CPU, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM,
and a SAMSUNG SSD PM800 Series 2.5" 256GB drive

I see the issue... You might want to find later AMD beta, it should be fine with this issue:

Oops, the 32 bit beta crashes on my 64bit machine. I tried multiple times, with reboot between each. Here is all the info I could collect:

Isn't that last crash kinda obvious?
My logic would say: http://3.14.by/files/brook_test_64.zip

Haven't tested if it exists though :P

A helpful idea, but the suggested file does not exist in the folder tree. The release 64 bit version had an issue perhaps Bars will look into sometime, trying the 32 bit version was suggested by BarsMonster as something to try as an alternative, but it didn't fly well after-all. It was worth a try and I hope for improvements in the future updates.
