About md5 bruteforcer

Post by lixingjian » Tue Jan 05, 2010 8:37 am

Has BarsMonster publiced the fasted md5 GPU bruteforcer?
I'm so curious about the implement...

Yesterday I saw a post discussing tricks of speeding up the calculation, which was also hard to understand...
http://www.freerainbowtables.com/phpBB3 ... ?f=2&t=715

I can achieve a performance of only 250M/s on NVIDIA Tesla C1060 currently.

Thanks for any help!

Yeah, you should get around twice of what you have...
It is actually quite simple - you just need to implement last steps reversion, which was widely discussed at many places and check how much time you spend on CPU.

705 GFLOPs card gets like 550 M/s and a Tesla C1060 is 933 GFLOPs so it should get around 728 M/s (550/705*933) 2.9x higher.

I've been puzzling for quite some days about "last steps reversion", which was described on that post I pasted above.
Maybe I need some other explanations or description of the trick... Could you help, or give other web pages to refer to?

I'd checked and confirmed that CPU cost little.

There's always this topic http://3.14.by/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=47
BTW you will not get 2.9 times faster by reversing, if your program is only doing MD5 it will be about 1.4545 times faster. Your function to generate the next password is probably really slow.
