thinking to get another GPU, some1 knows how much faster than GTX 295 a 480 is?

GTX 295: 480 SPs, 1242 MHz, 3 Max FLOPs/instruction, 1788.48 GFLOPS (480 * 1242 * 3 / 1000)
GTX 480: 480 SPs, 1401 MHz, 2 Max FLOPs/instruction, 1344.96 GFLOPS (480 * 1401 * 2 / 1000) (Note this one is faster)

GeForce 300 Series and earlier have an instruction, MADD+MUL, that can do 3 FLOPs. GeForce 400 Series only has an instruction, FMAD, that can do 2 FLOPs. That is why the GTX 295 has a higher GFLOPS than the GTX 480, but since that instruction will not be used for cracking passwords the GTX 480 is faster by about 12.8% (I think the GTX 480 is actually faster than that because of other changes in the hardware).

To add some practical numbers to Scoobz's post, a GTX 480 is not much faster...
[*] A GTX 480 reaches about 1590 million passwords per sec with BarsWF
[*] A GTX 295 reaches about 1410 million passwords per sec with BarsWF

If you want to crack MD5s, buy ATI. For example the 5870 is cheaper and two times faster than a 480!
[*] An HD 5870 reaches about 3290 million passwords per sec with ighashgpu (google for it)

3 Max FLOPs/instruction, 2 Max FLOPs/instruction
This does not help in cryptography. It can do multiple instructions per clock only in muliply+add-like cases, which appears only in graphics-related code, and never used in BarsWF or any other programm...
Not even sure that "combined" instructions works for integers.

So, count 1 for both here.

And yes, 5870 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better for $, but not with BarsWF
