Unix md5 - is that what I call freebsd md5? (the one with 1000 itterations)

It's the same apparently. Just the same old crypt() library function. (Check Section 3 of your Unix manual!)

The crypt() algo used for the shadow file's "MD5" is similiar to MD5, but isn't MD5.

Eg.

root:$1$GXJzVR5J$vS4wC7AW6hV8TvLu6Dtxt.:13979:0:::::

$1 - Says it's MD5
$GXJzVR5J - Salt. (After the $, 8 chrs.)
$vS4wC7AW6hV8TvLu6Dtxt. - Hash

NTLM will be useful too. NTLM rears it's ugly head in XP if you use a password longer than 14 characters. (Or forced by global policy)
Vista uses NTLM for any length.

i agree with Spaztikdude. thats how md5(unix) hashes work.

what about sha512 ? is that also included with sha1 ? just because of the whole crypted hdd idea :P

hmm well, it's another algorithm. so if we're making a difference between md5 and unixmd5 we also must do it for different types of sha.

no it's not included, as it is much bigger thing, and less widely used (AFAIK).
I mean here sha-1 with 160-bit output, which is the one used in php sha1() function.

Checksum cracking

I voted for NTLM( Actually MD4(Unicode(Pass)) ), but cracking MySQL(yep, those 64 bit hashes) could be fun because of the speed.Actually, If there will be a distributed attack on a single MySQL hash using different charsets, we might even find a collision.

if you are talking about mysql323:
you could probably already find a collision with a few cpu clients, since that implentation is very very fast...

http://freerainbowtables.com/phpBB3/vie ... t=60#p6470

i do not know if using the gpu will make it much faster...

edit:
if you crack an 10 char loweralpha pass it takes about ~38s (pass aaaaaaaaaa) on a phenom 9550 @ 2,6Ghz using one core.
cracking pass zzzzzzzz takes 1,48103344261s (took that time with python :P). which is 8**26 combinations btw.

but beside the collision search i dont think that algorithm would be usefull to integrate since everyone can crack those hashes with his own pc.

the original function can be found here : http://packetstorm.linuxsecurity.com/Cr ... msqlfast.c
and the improvments made by sc00bz here: http://freerainbowtables.com/phpBB3/vie ... t=60#p6464

edit2: btw what about wpa2 :P you could take the pyrit code and port it to windows.

Man, totally forgot about WPA2!That is one tough algo, something for distributed GPU's to crunch on.It'll be nice if it will be integrated into BarsWF, but still, implementing some simple algorithms first is kinda useful. So that's NTLM.

the_drag0n Thanks for the links.

i think next to bsd md5, crypt des would also be nice.

wpa would be awesome, but i guess it would hold up the full distributed network and maybe just get loweralpha with length 8. Or there should be some sort of wordlist option, probably making your implementation completely different (and maybe not even that well for GPU, unless you focus on word mutations).

although i could imagine you'd want unsalted hashes at first, just because then you can do wicked sick keyspaces with a lot of hashes :P

*agree* i think wpa should be done later.
first on the list seems to be ntlm and unix(md5) and freebsdmd5. these are system hashes which are both used very very often.
after that sha1 and then the exotic ones like md5(md5(......)) :)

first MD5(phpBB3)

and if possible :

sha1($salt.sha1($salt.sha1($pass)))
sha1($username.$pass)
md5($pass.$salt)
md5($salt.$pass.$salt)
md5($salt.$pass)
md5($salt.md5($pass))
md5($salt.md5($salt.$pass))
md5(md5($pass).$salt)
md5(md5($pass).md5($salt))
md5(md5($pass))
md5(md5($salt).$pass)
md5(md5($salt).md5($pass))
