I would not agree that it that bad :-)
You may brute last block only while having first blocks 100% random :-)
But I guess in the case of success the result of that would be far from user expectations :crazy:

Exactly because of the hillariously large keyspace, I've been trying to
look into making pieces very small... Like 8 bytes or so.

It wouldn't be practical, no .. To save space, you would need to make the pieces larger in size, than the SHA1 hash of each piece.
